Everything Matters when it comes to High School Senior Portraits

High School Portraits:  Everything Matter!

To start, let??™s talk about the color spectrum. Lets focus down to one color...  How is white made?  Using equal weights of the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) white light can be produced.  White is an additive primary color. The color white can be found in almost everything.  White is reflective of blizzards, weddings, and known as a summer color.  Pretty funny as it can represents culturally both in the cold of winter and the heat of summer.  Brides wear white to symbolize their innocence, their purity, and the peacefulness in their beginnings of marriage as husband and wife.  High School Students wear white for its simplicity in fashion, neutrality in color and the thought that it matches anything they wear.

White is reflective.  It enhances and brightens dark objects.  Our eyes are very good at judging what is white under different light sources.  A photographer??™s camera is in-perfect compared to the eye.  The human eye interprets white in all settings, where the camera must be adjusted for color temperature.  The colors that are reflective of the light source output (i.e. yellow sun).

White and the things you should know about your high school senior portrait.

Previously I stated that the color white is worn by high school students for its simplicity in fashion, neutrality in color, and that it matches everything.  Taking a short cut in your high school senior portrait session can lead to some un-manageable shortfalls for the untrained photographer.   As stated previously white is reflective.  White can greatly reduce the amount of background used within your portrait sessions because it is reflective taking away areas, where you can probably get great images while wearing darker colors.  That being said, bring a wardrobe, change your outfit up, mix it up, and have fun with it.
